Default eVGA 7950GT KO 512 -> eVGA 9800GT 512?

I've had my old 7950 for quite a while now and with all the new games coming out, I'm looking to upgrade.

The 9800GT is currently only $115 with a promotion code (EMCBAACBD) and looks to be the best in its class for the buck.

None of the VGA charts on Tom's Hardware include the 9800GT so I was wondering if anyone knew the kind of performance increase I would gain from upgrading?

I pretty much only play HL2, TF2, CSS and CoD4 - none of which at higher than 1280x1024.

The 9800GT is a 8800GT with hybrid SLI, a lower power consumption and runs a little cooler.

Maybe at most a 5fps gain over a 8800GT.

its the exact same as an 8800gt the only difference is that it does 3 way sli. i'm sure you can find some performance charts on there with the 8800gt.

Yea it has the 8800GT on there. Is it really that close to the 8800GT that you can just substitute it in?

I don't know if anyone was curious but here's my results ~

Both games are maxed out and the screenshots were taken at a 1280x1024 resolution

COD2 Before

COD2 After

COD4 Before

COD4 After

oh and prices =P (bought both from Newegg)

eVGA 7950GT KO - $280 (Roughly 2 years ago)
eVGA 9800GT - $115
