Default 9600gt sli vs 8800gt sli

don't want to post specs of my current computer because i was so naive when i tried to build it, thus it is really crappy.

I have google "9600gt sli vs 8800gt sli," but most of the information i found are outdated and strongly believe that new drivers will vastly increase the performance of a graphic card. So does anybody have an up to date information about which card is better?

I could understand why he wouldn't because people would probably focus on that and ignore his question. For example, if I asked this question w/ my specs being shown, then people would worry more about "oh your cpu is going to bottleneck yada yada yada". He just wants to see benchmarks regardless of what his system specs are, so there's no real need.

Having the 9600GT in sli myself I can say you should sli the 8800GT.

1-They are close enough in price that price shouldn't matter.

2-112 stream processors > 64 stream processors

3-They both have the same drivers so the improvement in each should be more or less parallel.

So if you want a bit better performance for about the same price, go with the 8800GT.

Other considerations... get the 1gb version. The VRAM is mirrored in SLI so that works to give each GPU it's own 512mb of VRAM again instead of sharing a mirrored 512mb. It is the one thing I wished I chose more than going with a better GPU [which I don't really care about the better GPU]. 1GB cards in SLI means higher minimum fps and more AA

Ive heard the 9600GTs scale very good in SLI..and a single one is near enough same performance as the 8800gt.

Close but no cigar. The 88gt beats it just for the fact that it has more streaming processors. Close to the same price i'd go with the 88

aye, but if price is really an issue, the 9600GT isn't half bad

it's about equal to the 3870 - they trade blows

If you hurry, you can go to best buy and grab a Visiontek HD4850 For $150 and kill a single 9600 and a single 8800. If you really want to be the boss, get a crossfire board and 2x HD4850 or a single 4870X2. I got my single 4850 yesterday and wasnt impressed with it until I found out my CPU is in fact bottlenecking everything. As soon as I replace my CPU and reinstall the OS, I expect to see massive improvements.

BTW - I bought the 4850 to replace my 9600GT that I sold.
