yeah, dual 8800 GT's will perform better than a single GTX 260, but if you are using a 20" monitor, its pointless because you won't be using the full potential of SLI 8800 GT's... stick with a GTX 260... and I personally would prefer to get EVGA because of their warranty and step up...

The 9800gtx+ is ~15-18% faster than the 8800gt @ 1680x1050 The GTX 260 is ~38-44% faster than the 8800gt @ 1680x1050 The GTX 260 core216 is up to 64% faster than the 8800gt @ 1680x1050 ^^ Across the board for 8-15 games. I got these figures from the benches from when the GTX 260 core216 first came out. I only referenced the fps of benches that included at least both the 8800gt and the GTX 260. I cross-referenced them with other benchmarks and produced a margin of error less than 10% (aka + or - whatever % increase from 8800gt). I had this all done in an excel spreadsheet, which regrettably did not save after I entered the %'s on my work computer. Here isthe original spreadsheet without the percents listed. If you were to spend the time finding the percents, they would be very close across the board to what I have listed here. The source from the reviews: Hardware Canucks TechPowerUp

You go an overclocked 8800GT that would be on pair with 9800GTX + stock so no point. I would skip this gen so next gen you will see a bigger bridge not a tiny one.

no, even an overclocked 8800 GT is not the same as a 9800 GTX+... an 8800 GTS G92 KO edition would be closer towards it, but still slightly slower... but a wise choice would be to go with the GTX 260

I also agree that the GTX 200 series is a bridge to something amazing.

I believe it is because the GTX has that much more voltage to it.
