Default New GPU - 9800GT vs. 9600 GT vs. 8600 GTS SLI

OK as the title say im looking for a new GPU for my rig. I have ruled ATI out since i have the P5N-E SLI and i see no point in going for ATI. SO dont try to sell me the 4850 . The GPU should be in the price range of >150€ (less than 150€, ok it can be like 155 but not like 170 or something). My choices are the 9800 GT (GTX+ would be nice but costs too much), 9600 GT or another 8600GTS for SLI. Note: i got the XXX edition from XFX and i score almost 7000 3DMarks with my rig as is http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=8306782. So i want to be able to get better performance than that. Any specific manufacturers you would recommend?

Thanks.

Hey

I'm pretty sure the 9800GT will beat both the 9600GT and 8600GTS.
That is because the 9800GT is a renamed 8800GT. And from the benchmarks I've seen the 8800GT beats the 9600GT.
And both 9800GT and 9600GT will destroy the 8600GTS.

How does having a P5N-E SLI rule out the HD4850? At your resolution I'd go for the 9800GT as long as it isn't too expensive.

Seems he would like to keep his options for SLI open. An HD4850 would negate that.

The 9800GT would be your best option (out of what you listed), but I would go for an 8800GT or 8800GTS 512MB if you're concerned with price. As stated above the 9800GT is nothing more than a renamed 8800GT. Paying more for a renamed product is just silly. The G92 GTS's (8800GTS 512MB) are pretty cheap now-a-days as well, and they outperform the 8800GT 512MB by about 10% or so. That would be the best option in your price range. If you don't mind a reconditioned product, EVGA is selling their B-Stock 8800GTS 512MB cards for $99 + s/h, about $105 shipped.

So your saying is should go with a 8800 GTS. And yes i dont want the 4850, because its a SLI mobo and nvidia chipset (though that would not affect the performance). I thought the 9600 GT is a 8800 GT down clocked a little??? If not then maybe i should go for 8800 GTS. I will be overclocking the card...

I really wish sometimes that i lived in the states... The price of them damn 8800GTS is still up in the 170€+ range here in Finland ok... i could order from like germany or something, but still its a pain.

single 9800 GT better than 9600GT

But 9600GTs will do better scale in SLI than 8800 GTs in SLI (for some game, Not always)

i think both are good choice.
if you have more money, i'd spend on GTX260 core 216

No the 9600GT has only 64sp while the 8800/9800GT has 112 and the GTS G92 has 128. The GTS G92 (8800GTS 512MB) is about on par with the HD4850 (with AA taken out of the equation), so for ~$105 shipped, it's hard to beat. Two in SLI would be all you'd need for a while, as SLI G92 GTS's rival the 9800GX2 and GTX280.

I would choose from 9800/8800GT/8800GTS all three are great cards, if you are going SLI the 9600GT's scale very well.... Chose for your budget, obiouslly gts being the best choice but the performance is only worth another 20-30$

And I wouldnt go with ati either, even if it performs great, I bought a SLI board for a reason... ATI fans are lurking in nvidia section trying to convert people, look out for them

Go for the 9800GT. Its the best card out of the three.
