Default 8800 GTX and PSU Question

I'm looking at getting the 8800 GTX, but I'm not sure if it'll run with my PSU. This card requires 2 six pin power connectors, while my PSU only has one. Is it possible to use a 4 to 6 pin adapter on this card or does it have to be a six pin straight out of the PSU?

8800 GTX : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130414

My PSU: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817128006

Thanks,

32oz

You might be pushing it a little bit. At max, your power supply can probably deliver around 420 watts. My rig right now is running around 310 while folding on that card, can't remember for sure but gets up around 400 at full load. Granted, I am using a quad, 3 hard drives, and 4 gigs of ram. You should be ok, but don't press for too much. Also, an adapter will be fine.

According to Hiper's website, peak is 580W, rated is 530W, so I guess it could deliver 530W.

Not too sure about Hiper's quality though.

I found this funny:

+12V Rails Yes
anyhow here is the specs people need
Quote:
Output +3.3@28A,+5V@34A,+12V1@20A,+12V2@17A,-12V@0.8A,+ 5VSB@2.5A
You should be okay since your CPU is not OCed very high. I hope the 12V rail split means one for CPU and one for GPU

ok thx guys...

One more quick question... To convert the 4 pin PC Power to a 6 pin PCI Express (x16) connecter which of the following would be best?

One 4 Pin PSU to PCI-E Power Supply Converter cable: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812201004

Two 4 pin PSU to PCI-E Power Supply Converter cable: http://www.pcpartscollection.com/2x4to6pcpoco.html

Or would this work? (would be easiest)
PCI Express 6 Pin Y Cable Split to 2 Connectors: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812201008

This is the better one IMO, but for your PSU, you want everything on the 12V rail. Check your manual to see what wires have different 12V rails so you can distribute load properly

Shouldn't it be included some cables for that? Or is that just for the Graphics Cards with an 8 pin?
