The 8800GTS crap?

It's a good card. Perhaps not in this situation, but such a broad statement is uncalled for.

The 8800GTS is better than the 8800GT/9800GT...albeit it only slightly better.

with a pentium 4, i suggest you get a 8800gt or 9800gt as maximum upgrade.

What would happen if I were to get this card?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130325

Would it hurt me more than help me? I might get a new motherboard and CPU combo from tigerdirect after xmas. Depends on the economy.

That card is a 9800gt prtty much, Just get a 55nm single slot 9800gt and call it a day. You get like 3 more fps with a gtx with the best cpu. Your cpu wont show difference.

Get this one, EVGA is the best nvidia vendor and has a lifetime warranty if you register it within a month. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130377

Exclamation

You'll get half the FPS your supposed to be getting with a 9800 GTX and a Pentium 4 in modern games (Trust me I have a Pentium 4 @ 3.4GHZ!!!). I also have a 8600 GTS and when I play Crysis on medium it basically stalls when I get into intense battles and/or break buildings (because of Pentium 4). I don't recommend buying that card with your CPU as you will regret it. That is why I'm hopefully getting a new Core 2 Duo based system next week
