Default HELP!!! HSI chip on a Geforce 7600GS overheats! How do I fix this?

HELP!

I'm fixing a friends computer who has a Gigabyte branded 7600GS AGP and it has stupid passive cooling, plus the HSI chip gets red hot and the computer then BSODs. Is there a way to fix this other than forking out for a new graphics card?

Thanks in advance! REP+1 for people who can help or at least try.

Well. I never liked passive cooling. I used to have a gigabyte 7600GS.. Best thing i can tell him to do would to get a Zalman VF700 or just strap a fan to it.. 80mm should work fine. Or just put a 120mm fan underneath it

Adding a fan should help.. Maybe replace the stock cooler with something better.

BSOD huh? Well instead of forking out money for a new fan, check and see if the passive cooling has any hitches, try re-applying the thermal paste and what not (its worked for me before! and since its a 7600 its prolly ollddddd). Other than that, keep buying a new fan as ur last resort, I always like to try and fix things than to take the easy solution and juss spending $$ to fix it.......u kno what i mean?

Try ziptieing a fan to it or ghetto rig a fan pointing at it. It needs more cooling somehow.
