i didn;t say it would beat the 260? i said it would beat the 4850 and 9800? and whoever said the 4850 performs better, i have never seen any bench's anywhere that say the 4850 performs better? i can;t def say about the 9800 i've seen a mixture i don;t know how well 9800's oc, i am talking once the 8800 gts has been oc it would outperform a 4850 any day of the week.

4850 power consumption is a tad higher than the 8800gt and lower than the 9800gtx,so a 8800gts and 4850 might be very close.

I'm getting parts for a friend and i need to keep the price below $1200 That's why I am having a hard time. I would have liked to use 2 gtx 260's in sli but i think i might need to go crossfire instead and get him 2 4050's.
This is what I've got so far. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=13561147 I have 2 motherboards on it because I will go either sli or crossfire. The cpu and psu are a compo for -30$ . Anyone have suggestions for a reduced price with increased performance? (Should I make a new topic for this?)

Crysis 1920x1080 and 2xAA in DX10... Sure, OCing will tip the scales a bit, but OC the HD 4850 and the score will still go to the ATi card. it is liek that in most benches i can find... it is a very close race, yes, but i am pretty sure that with AA the HD4850 will pull ahead more often than not.

BUT WHAT DOES ANY OF THIS HAVE TO DO WITH THE OP?! ![]() The question was if anything would beat a gtx 260 @ $230 for a cheaper price... The answer is yes, an HD4870 for $239 or an HD4870 with questionable cooling for $215 That said, the OP's suggested build looks solid and the 4870 512MB would be the best card to go with at the ~$250 price range... And although there are SLI or CF options that might top it at a similar price range, the performance difference would be negligible... ALSO, most importantly: I would not suggested getting two lower end cards and SLIing or CFing them right off the bat! I'm a firm believer that people should purchase the single best card that they can afford and leave the option to CF or SLI open for when games get more intensive... this saves people the trouble of having to sell off 2 cards that no longer perform adequately enough in order to upgrade

If that newegg cart is what you plan to get, from what i can see there is no way a single 4870 will use a 850W PSU, you could save a bit by getting a lower Wattage PSU, also if you get a cheaper CPU and OverClock instead to get it up to 3Ghz+ will save some more. Also i would suggest getting a single graphics card that is good, because CrossFire and SLI dont scale very well in most things, atleast you will get peak performance in all things your doing with a single GPU
