Default will artic silver 5 work on my 5500

Just wondering if i could get an extra few mhz out of my xfx 5500 core if i took off the original thermal paste under the fan and put on sum artic silver 5 on

Yes I did that to my MSI 5500 and I gained about 15mhz on the detect optimal frequencies. It worked very well actually.

I think it could help you out a little bit. Don't expect massive overclock from AS5 alone. I even put AS5 on my laptops CPU

Well Arctic Silver should improve temperatures slightly however I don't think it would allow you to overclock higher. Remember AS is only suppose to fill in the gaps between the core and heatsink, not act as a medium itself for heat transfer.

Also remember everyone's experiences are different so try it out. Just don't expect miracles.

cool. i think ill be investing in a 3 pound tube of that beast then. I need some on my northwood any way its only got sum old crap i bought off ebay. it wasnt even arctic silver, some no name

I had a 5500, I got better temps and about 10mhz more is all, aftermarket cooling and ram sinks would help alot, I got about 75mhz more overclock by doing that, not really a whole lot more, but better than none.
