Default Doh! GTX260 same performance as 8800GT ???

Hi all,

Ive just bought an EVGA GTX260 Core 216 Superclocked card to replace my bfg 8800GT OC2, here are some benchies ive done:

all tests done at 1680x1050

8800GT

World in conflct - ran 2 tests

Average: 29
Min: 19
Max: 52

Average: 27
Min: 11
Max: 51

Crysis Benchmark

dx9 - 33.9
dx10 - 33.4

Devil May cry 4 - performance test

test 1: 87
Test 2: 60
Test 3: 107
test 4: 56

Gtx260 Core 216

World in conflct - ran 2 tests

Average: 39
Min: 12
Max: 85

Average: 40
Min: 19
Max: 86

Crysis Benchmark

dx9 - 47.1
dx10 - 39.3

Devil May cry 4 - performance test

test 1: 88
Test 2: 66
Test 3: 94
test 4: 60

Im very disapointed with the results, the 260 is hardly any faster then the 8800GT and in one of the devil may cry tests it gets beat by the 8800GT.

Before i bought this card someone said that it wouldn't run very well on my DS3L, he said that he went from an 8800GT to a GTX260 and there was hardly any difference for him untill he bought a PCIE 2.0 complient motherboard.

What do you guys think ?????

Thanks for reading

Hmm, I think the power of the GTX only comes in at 1920x1200 with AA enabled . I went from my laptop (8800M GTX SLI) to GTX 280 SLI, and damn, I'm still blown away every day by the power! (I know the 8800m is slower than the desktop version, but still )

PCIe 2.0 only offeres higher power output from the motherboard, and higher bandwidth which is not used by the card anyhow

I have a GTX 260 coming in the mail soon, I can test for you..

I went from 8800 GTX SLI to 9600 GT SLI, single 9600GT, and soon GTX 260 c216, and GTX 260 SLI

Generally it should be faster and yes, the GTX 260 will outshine on higher resolutions and upper limit settings in games.

gtx 260 should be 30-40% faster than 8800Gt and crysis benchmark clearly shows that.Don't be misslead with max fps, look average.
Someone went from 4870x2 to gtx280 and he was amazed. He wasn't getting so high fpss as with x2 but average fps and minimum(which counts for me too most) were higher.

Be sure to uninstall and then reinstall your drivers when you change cards. It's best to use a program like Driver Cleaner Pro to ensure that all of the previous driver has been deleted.

well, that's not an insane resolution you're running it on - i've discovered that the big beefy cards really don't do much below a certain monitor size.

din't feel THAT MUCH of a difference moving from an 8800GT to my 4850 - i think you're in the same boat as me despite the fact that the GTX 260 is slightly more powerful
