I had a similar issue with the 180 drivers and my 9600s. Upgraded for 2.11 to 2.20 RivaTuner and that fixed it. Make sure you have the latest version. I think 2.21 is out now.

Have you set fan speed in the overclock section? I noticed that when I adjust low level duty cycle that my card kept reverting back to 35%, but when I adjust the fan speed in the tab next to the OC tab that it stayed.

THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!! this has been hurting my scores big time and have never figured out a fix till I just read this... always either on the second test or third test my core would drop to 400 from say 700 and wouldnt go back up till I restarted the benchmark but then the second or third test would do it all over again...

its driver controlled, any 178.xx driver wont enable the power saving feature so the clocks will sit @ full speed, but the 180.xx drivers contain the power saving feature....

) that it was the card itself and you can disable this using the driver features.I thought I had read that some drivers you *couldn't* force the perf options and others you could but the downclocking power-save feature was always there. Ugh! Just give me a card that works 100% of the time, lol

lol.... i thought i disabled mine
![]() Well i was on 178.14 the other day, as i installed a new version of windows & this was the generic driver windows selected, & the clocks sat @ full speed, i then installed 178.24 (i think) & still the clocks sat @ full speed.... i then began to think the crack you gave me for the cmd worked after i upgraded windows & then thought no more about it.. im sure i tried to play something & saw a little lag, so i upgraded to 180.84...low & behold the ''power saving'' feature was in effect... not sure which 180 it was first implemented on but its certainly driver enabled, & once there are new enough drivers installed RT is able to disable it.

Understood.. Now that I think about it I never did run this new GTX260 without a 180.xx driver so I'm sure your 100% accurate
![]() Well then.. Wonder where to go from here.. Seems like it's causing issues to many, not all, and now if nVidia somehow makes this more easily configurable -or- changes the threshold to when it downclocks. I was seeing it mainly in Warhammer Online. Game would stress but something 5-10 mins into it would say "downclock" and performance would be terrible until I restarted. After this RT fix I don't see it. Drivers, Drivers, Drivers
