Default Palit 9600GT choppy gameplay

Okay, so I have a Palit 9600GT with the circular cooler on it. You can see it here. As you can see there aren't any ramsinks on this card which, when I first bought it, seemed like it could pose some problems but up until a couple months ago it was working fine. I noticed a little bit more stuttering than my 8800GTS 320mb but for the most part I got higher frame rates.

Now here's the problem that I'm having. After playing a game for maybe 10-15 minutes the game gets unbearably choppy. When I say unbearably choppy I mean going from 60fps solid to as low as 5-10fps or even lower.

I know that my CPU is stable and is running no hotter than 55C at 100% so that's ruled out. I haven't checked my RAM but I haven't had any problems with it in a year and a half. The only thing I can think of is that the RAM on my video card is overheating.

So my question is, has anyone else had this problem with this card and if so what can I do about it?

Thanks in advance! (sorry for the long post)

Have you tried setting the card at stock speeds? What temp is the card running at? I don't think those cards have memory overheating issues, I had an 8800GT with no memory cooling and never experienced any problems.

I honestly didn't even think about that. I just assumed that my card was stable as I've had it run at these speeds for up to 8 hours on ATI tool without any errors. I'll give it a try in a bit and get back to you.

I might end up doing that if nothing else works. I was thinking it but I just wanted to make sure that it was that before going out and spending money on something.

woops didn't realize that you had overclocked the card. try bringing the memory back to stock and lave the gpu that same and see if that helps. the mem has no heatsinks so that is probably the problem.

RAM overheating should give you artifacts, imo random slowdowns like that are due to RAM filling up and HDD kicking in or vram filling up and system RAM coming into play.what settings do you game on?is it same as this guy?

i usually don't have AF or AA enabled at all when I game but most games I have med-high settings at 1680x1050. sometimes texture settings i lower but the thing is that it was running fine at the settings i have up until a little while ago. the only thing i really changed was the fan positions in my case, although I only added more fans.

I have a 9600 GT by palit except it's the best 9600 GT by palit. Nice overclock on yours though, my core is on 735 for stable cod4 but memory at 2140.

I do not get choppy gameplay.
