A 3.6ghz clock on a Q4 is nothing..and easily matched with a fast dual-core CPU. Its not like I ran at 5ghz using the GS's in SLI.. I kept the CPU low, to compare my scores better, against others here on the forum.

So far, my scores have bested hardware in excess of 3x the cost..

-------------------

All that aside, I have not seen any 9600GT SLI scores as high as mine, with CPU clocks as low as mine.. Thus my opinion = [ 8800GS > 9600GT ] anyday with mods.
Not arguing the fact that the 88gs beats the 96gt in SOME cases. At higher resolutions though i believe the 9600gt pulls ahead, but not by a whole lot.
3.6 on a Q6600 is a high clock anyday, considering its stock is 2.4.

What do you score in vantage? Can you get screenies?

Seconded, mine is a 384MB GSO (Former 88GS) I max CoD4 and games like it at 1680x1050 with a easy 35+ FPS and i still have it stock.

If you want to save a bit get the GSO. but I would try for the 384MB ones because DDR2 ugh.

Are you seriously saying a single 9600GSO beats a single HD4830? If so you are very very wrong. A single OCed 9600GSO might beat an HD4830 in 3DMark but there's no way it does in games. At face value, most will choose the 9600GT, as it requires no effort to have screaming high clocks, and stays very cool, due to low amount of shaders and cache on the GPU. Plus, I have never compared stock to stock for either GPU..just my experience with in-game FPS and hard OC's.

Not really..its matched on air cooling if you have a good cooler and low VID CPU. I initially though you were insinuating that my 18k score on '06 was from 'all of meh CPU horsepowah'.

**I dont run Vista..on any rig..so no Vantage. Though I will no doubt take the 1st place for Vantage in the GS category as well...once I do run it.

Here are the compare links for my GS's in SLI and single GPU:

SLI'd GS's

3d 01' - #1 for HWBot : 70,654 points
3d 03' - #1 for HWBot : 61,723 points
3d 05' - #1 for HWBot : 23,557 points
3d 06' - #1 for HWBot : 18,649 points
ORB compare link

..for comparison.. here is a link for a 06' score I posted using a 3.4ghz X3320 and Xfired 4850's.. my GS's are only 200points behind... the difference in the CPU clocks is of no concern as they were 65nm ->45nm.... see the SM2.0 and SM3.0 scores compared to mine..? The 4850's beat the GS's only by a few FPS in SM3.0 18,828 points-> Xfired 4850's ORB compare link

Single GPU records

3d 01' - #17 for HWBot : 62,548 points
3d '03 - #6 for HWBot : 40,664 points
3d 05' - #13 for HWBot : 22,789 points
3d 06' - #3 for HWBot : 14,820 points

**If anyone has any 9600GT scores to compare to those, I would love to see them.

as much as i like to praise your results, a high clocked q6600 will always yield better scores in both CPU and it even raises the score in the graphics department.. 3dmark06 shouldnt be any way to test 3d performances

id like to see you run crysis warhead, 1440x900 enthusiasts setttings using the airfield flythrough bench test

if not, id like you to run crysis benchmark all high dx9 1440 x 900. thanks

btw. ive seen an e8400 oced to 4.0 + 9600gt sli scoring 20k in 3dmarks06

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...vanilla+9600gt

thats one proof that its better than yours.

not to mention, that guys using pretty damn old drivers

You almost got Repp'd too.. Too bad the link you posted was for a E8500 @ 5.3ghz ! Yeah..I'd hope he'd make 20k ROFLOMG!! Im only 1400 points away with a Q6600 at 3.6ghz...

Not to mention that my GPU's are clocked much higher anyhow, and would trounce those SM scores with a CPU of the same speed.

I'll see if I got some time to install Crysis for all the 'doubters' and make some runs this weekend.

*Also, SM 2.0 and SM3.0 scores will ALWAYS be higher with a fast dual core, compared to a quad.

ie- I can get 6200points for the CPU score with my Q6600 @ 3.6ghz.... yet SM2.0 only scores ~8k ...with a 4.5ghz dual-core ..the CPU score is around 4500 points...and SM2.0 scores are in the low 9k's.

Well thats all good and well but according to the link you gave us it says you were clocked at 4Ghz

http://service.futuremark.com/result...eResultType=14

Thats your system correct? thats the link i followed from that hwbot site when i clicked verification. I'd like to see some crysis benches too. with a nice GPU-Z shot and CPU id verifcation.

BTW.... Futuremark messes core clocks up on CPU's. It did the same to mine when i was running at 3.6

I'd say the GT as the GSO is the budget version for Nvidia (see 8800 GT vs 8800 GSO)
