Default New case, hotter 8800gt

Hey all.

I've haven't posted much, but I have looked around alot and found some interesting facts and helpful tips.

Anyway here's my problem.

I have an Asus 8800gt 512mb (one of the very first 88s from Asus) and i recently changed cases from some rare thing i found to a Thermaltake Soprano. My cpu temps went down, but my cards temp went up to 60c idle, usually its 50c. I know they can handle alot, but i wondering why it went up. My old case had 1 intake and 1 exhaust fan. Both 80mms. My new case has 2 intakes 1 x 120mm and 1 x 92mm. 1 exhaust which is a 120mm.

I know alot of you will say use rivertuner or the asus program smartdoctor to speed up the fan. The problem is, neither program will do it. I've found this with only Asus cards running in my system.

Anyway hopefully some of you may be able to help.

My guess is that you have fighting airflow, the case fan is fighting against the gpu fan, and the result is wasted energy and less heat dissipation.

I have a feeling that your airflow is not well organized. Think about the placement of your fans, and consider how your PSU wires are running and everything as well. Some cable management and airflow will help.

If you use RivaTuner it will help to set threshholds and temp ranges (make sure it's core temp and not ambient temp) and set the different speeds through that.

Hope that helps

I'm just using the fans that came with it, because i can't really change the airflow structure. I did the cable management when i put it it. I was thinking of setting up my 80mm green led fan just behind the hdds and have it push some of the air coming through to the gpu.

Thanks for the advice guys. This place is awesome, responses are so fast.

I plan one Day to get a real case that I like.

I don't like alot of the designs today, but this case will do for now, and it has better cooling.

The easiest way to change airflow is to unscrew a fan and put it the other way. If you do this with the fan closest to your videocard, you should see a decrease in temps.

I had higher temps than I liked on my GPU's, so I placed a fan pulling from the front right onto my video cards. My temps were going into the 70s. Now they hover just above 60, and that's while folding. My fans are set to 68% BTW.
I just used some zip ties to secure the fan where I wanted it. If you can find a few holes to run the zip-tie through, you can put a fan wherever you want.
