For your setup I think you should go for the 9800Gt or the 4830. You will be able to max out any game, and still have the option of going SLI or Crossfire.

I'm seriously considering the 9800gt now, especially because if I get another one later on the sli'ed performance is close to a gtx 260, according to tom's hardware. I'm not going to buy an ATI card at this point because I think it would be a waste to not use a card I could sli, unless there is such a good deal that I would have to be a moron not to jump on...

For that res a 9800GT will handle everything perfectly, with the exception of GTA IV and crysis, and maybe mirrors edge

Get a 9800GTX+ and call it a day

I've heard rumors of some new nvidia cards coming out soon, so I think I might wait until they come out and prices drop again....or maybe not.

Not those, I've heard rumors of some newer ones coming out in a few months. I think if I were going to go with any 2xx series card right now, I would go with the GTX260. Just need to get the $..

I just found an 8800gts g92 for like $115 which is pretty much a 9800gtx, right? The 9800gt I was looking at has only 112 stream procs, while this one has 128 for like $10 more. Glad I haven't bought anything yet. That 8800 should outperform a 9800gt, right?

I wouldn't go that far, Ive seen some benchmarks run by members on TPU showing the old 8800GS keeping up with the 9600GT and even surpassing it when both are overclocked. Once you can get rid of the memory bottleneck on the 8800GS those 96 shaders are useful suddenly lol
