Question Need opinions on gpu upgrade...

Hey everyone, I was just wondering what graphics card you would recommend for my system. According to other forums, my oc'ed E2180 won't bottleneck anything short of a gtx 280 or above, which are all above my price range anyway. I want a good card that can do better than my current 8600gt at resolutions not exceeding 1440x900 because I am using a 19" wide. I think I had already found a winner in the 8800gts 320mb from newegg for $80, but they don't carry it anymore, so I'm in the market again. What do you guys think?

Don't get the 8800gts 320. You have E2xxx so get the 9600GSO if that's your budget. It is a good upgrade from 8600GT and good enough for your 19" LCD.

If you are looking for something like that I would go for a 9800gtx+ or a 9800gx2. I saw 9800gx2 on newegg for just over $200 and that thing is more than plenty for you. If you are looking to spend a bit more, you can try the gtx260 core216 but it performs less than the gx2 and is a bit more expensive (although it is a single gpu card).

I'll second the 9600GSO. Just make sure you get the GDDR3.

Alternatively the Sapphire 4830 if you want ATI. (Which makes for a GREAT future upgrade since Crossfired they are awesome)

How much of an improvement could I expect going from the 8600gt to the 9600gso? Would the price jump from the 9600gso to something like the 9800gt be worth it?
