But still the answer is heat: Cuz there are basically 2 options to solve this GPU problem downclock or increase fan speed. Default fan speed is 40%, if you set it to 75% without changing clocks everything would be fine. So, actually, I forgot to mention that xfx tech support adviced to make fan profiles for different temps. But 17 downclocked mhz wasn't crutual for so I decided to go easier way.

This has been interesting & frustrating for me; I don't remember ever having tried downclocking the card, but I game with the fan at 70% or higher as a rule. I guess I'll try downclocking, but I never really wanted to calculate the shader & memory clock settings. What's odd to me is that I only have this issue with crysis (which my old system allowed me to play through). I play bioshock, far cry 2, assassin's creed, the orange box, oblivion, and a few others maxed without issue; on my half, I think it's a game issue and will look into that if downclocking doesn't work. Let me know how you guys fare with this.

80C is perfectly fine for that card. maybe as the card got older the clocks become unstable for some reason.

all you need to is play crysis warhead for an hour and if you dont crash then you know your good to go up your fan to 60%-70% and if you still crash lower your clocks abit.

This has nothing to do with the 81c temps. That's fine and the fan fix wan't help for...
The problem is the VDDC's getting overheated, the solution is to underclock or undervolt Try using my guide. (Please use the clocks that your card is flashed with then doing it.) Use the guide in my signature. I'm 1000% sure it'll fix your problems! Btw. every card is able to run furmark if they aren't, they are NOT stable/bugged/faulty.

you MUST raise the card fan to 100% when you're playing/using 3D intensive programs or it will crash... just raise it and it will not go higher than 62c on Crysis Load

I think its running too hot for sure. I have the same card and at stock settings (666/1404/1150) and auto fan, it tops out at 65 Celsius. Ive been playing graphics intensive games at 710/1575/1275 @ 80% fan and it runs cooler at 55-60 tops. Your card runs too hot. Maybe get in touch with xfx and see if they will give you a new one. I love my 260BE - it runs like a champ. sorry to hear yours might have problems. best of luck!!! My 260 info

Actually this was a good post to resurrect, because I too am having the EXACT SAME issues with XFX right now. And yes, I've identified the fan speed on the card the culprit at 80C.
My thread on this topic is located here: http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/6033...x-geforce.html Pretty much it's BS that we paid extra for a factory overclocked card that still uses a stock reference cooler that is incapable of handling the heat being generated by the card. I mean c'mon... for the extra dollars paid, you'd think that they would have made the fan timings either more aggressive or maybe put 2 fans on the card to keep it cool under "factory overclocked" conditions.
