Default Gpu artifacts not going away until reboot

Hi, first post, sorry if it's a duplicate but I was wondering, when I set my GPU clock to more than it can handle, artifacts appear all over the screen, while I'm not running any 3d programs, just on the desktop. When I set the clock speed back to the last stable speed, they do not disappear. I have to reboot for them to go away. Temperature is not an issue, it idles at 50* C, 82 max under load.
I was just wondering if this was normal, it's not crucial in any way.

I have an Nvidia 8600 GTS, I am running vista 32-bit
675 MHz stock speed, artifacts appear above 936 MHz (seems obvious at that high above stock) but it's stable at 936.

Thanks

Obviously that overclock isn't stable if it's making artifacts. It won't hurt anything though.

No, I mean it's relatively stable at 936 (passes benchmarks and runs games)
It's anything above 936 where the artifacts start.

I've had the same problem with my 4870X2 where ATITool floods with artifacts until I reboot. I think it's normal. My guess is that some corrupted data may have been left in the core or memory due to the instability, so a reboot is needed to flush them out.

Then it's not stable above 936. Nothing much you can do about it short of a voltage mod.

Yep, needing a reboot is normal. I still clearly remember benching my old ATi 9800Pro and ATi 9600XT's with this artifact MAYHEM not leaving until rebooting.
