My 8800gs went bad so I sent it back to EVGA. In return they sent me a 9800GT flashed to a 8800GS.
__________________http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/vwzc2/ gpu-z validation. I'm pretty confused as to why they would do that, maybe they didn't have anymore 8800gs or 9600gso's? My question is this: Can I reflash this card back to a 9800GT? If so, how? Or would the performance gain be null? The 9800GT has a 256bit interface with 112 SP, to my 192bit w/96 SP. Thanks in advance.

I think it is just a GPUZ error.
9800GT and 8800gs are totally different. Not sure if a bios flash can make the 9800gt run EXACTLY like a 8800gs.

A sure way to find out would be to remove the heatsink and take a look! I do remember hearing that 8800GTS G92s were being flashed to 9600GSOs and being sold, so maybe it is possible!

I don't know if it's an error if Device manager is actually reporting the same card, as well as Nvidia's Control panel.
See attached image.

surly even if it was flashed, the bus width would still remain 256bit..??

The card itself is slightly different looking than my 8800gs was. The pcb is a sea green color, while my 8800gs was a dark green. The card is slightly longer as well.

That is a little old. Most companies if they don't have the product being RMAed in stock they would just upgrade the end user to something better for free.
But since it is a EVGA, you can try to reflash the bios. If it is a 9800gt, you can use a 8800gt or 9800gt bios as they are the same card.

did you wipe and reinstall your drivers?
Looks like you got a good deal out of it though. Evga RMA service is the absolute best imo.

I'm not sure I understand.... if device manager, nVidia control panel, and GPU-Z are showing a 9800gt what makes you say its been flashed with an 8800gs BIOS? It looks to me like you got just got a 9800gt...
