Please also ignore the earlier post someone made implying that running a quad in crysis makes any sort of noticeable difference. It really doesn't...

And furthermore, a 9600GSO in DX9 won't EVEN run Warhead at all enthusiast on a 22" monitor res at a playable framerate, let alone average in the 40's. Now, Crysis on all high might barely be playable if you don't mind like 23fps average ...

Sorry to the OP for just ranting on your thread, I really wish I could help. You should use the RT graphing/onscreen display to determine how much VRAM your settings are using up. If it's >512MB on DX10, and <512MB on DX9, then you potentially have your answer. But I kinda doubt that's what it is, otherwise the poster with the 4870 512MB would be having the same issue, and it sounds like he does not...

You're hitting the 512mb VRAM limit of the GX2

After you've figured out your driver problems, download "Cuban Ultima Doom Arch Assassin Taowolf Sword's Custom Crysis Config [CCC] v2.21!". I always run in DX10 and average 20-25FPS in all levels except the ice levels (I think it's because of my low amount of shader processors).

I hate running Crysis in dx9, it just isn't the same.

BTW. This config works just fine for warhead, just change the install directory.

Also, that's at 1400x900 with 2xAA

Its sad but true, when I had my 9800gx2 I played everything but Crysis very well. To make Crysis playable at the highest graphic settings I just set the resolution to 720p. Like everyone is saying the 9800gx2 is essentially two 8800GT's so your limited by 512MB,256bit which is very limiting for Crysis but not much else

No, you don't understand. Crysis runs fine for me, look at the original post. I'm running the same settings on both Crysis and Crysis Warhead and both at 1600x1200. Crysis gets 31 FPS (which is perfect) but Warhead get 12 - 16 FPS (which is bad). That's the weird thing.

I was having a similar problem...

Getting mid 30's in crysis all very high @ 1920 and only getting 18-20 in Warhead using same settings. I reinstalled Warhead and patched it to the latest version. 1.1+hotfix and it ran a little better than crysis after that.

I'm not saying I know what the problem is here, but I will say this ... both of these games have levels where the fps varies DRAMATICALLY vs. other levels in the game. This makes it very difficult to compare apples-to-apples even across levels within each game, let alone between these two games.

Again, you should be using EPT or RT to check the vram usage on the level that's giving you a problem. See if there's a difference in ram usage between dx9 and dx10, all else being equal.

Can't monitor VRAM usage under vista. Unless you know something that can?
