I currently own an Asus P4S533 and its 4x agp compatible i'm looking at buying a geforce 6600GT its 4x and 8x agp, since my motherboard is only 4x compatible what sort of performance losses should i expect to see over a board with 8x compatibility?

You will see a big performace loss, AGP is on the way out, theres no reason to even get that new card, i would save up and get a new mobo and a pic express card, you will be happer in the long run.

Yea. In your situation, I agree with MAXX...
although I'm buying an APG 6800, I have AGP 8X and I don't have to worry about not getting the most out of my videocard as far as transfer speeds, your going to need to upgrade your mobo sooner or later, so why not do it now, and get a 6600GT or even a 6800, it would be worth it in the long run.. If you get a 6600GT, you might as well get a SLi motherboard, and get a second 6600GT later and from waht I hear 2x 6600GT's = 1x 6800 Ultra.

actually, When i had my 6800u with my XP-M i did this test, I had an agp 8x and 4x - The 4x only got 20ish Less in 3dmark05, than the 8x And i think it was because the 4x motherboard was crap
, ill look for my benchmark pics

Its not going to just go away overnight it will SLOWLY phase out over time like all older tech.. To say don't buy something because its going out is a lame statement and based on all the hype from the makers of PCI-e.(AGP will be here for awhile) If he can better himself with a new card on his budget and its AGP I say go for it.
