A GTX 275, when overclocked, can match and occasionally outperform a GTX 285 at stock. However, if the GTX 285 is overclocked, it will pull ahead.

According to Anandtech, a GTX 275 needs about GPU:702/Shaders:1656/Mem:2592 to beat a stock GTX 285 (Not by much though).

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3575&p=7

That's about an 11% increase in clock speed, 18% increase in shader speeds, and 14.2% increase in memory speeds... That's a pretty big overclock if you ask me and not all GTX 275s will overclock that much.

GTX275

You'll appreciate the 55nm as well.

If you get an Evga GTX280, though, you can take advantage of the voltage tuner, and there are more aftermarket heatsinks for 280's than 275's.

I could show you another review that shows pretty much the exact opposite, and we could go back and forth forever. All online reviews need to be taken with a grain of salt.

How about we get down to brass tacks: I'd like someone to show me a review/benches from ANY reliable source that positively shows that there is a difference between the GTX275, 280, and 285 in terms of playable settings on any game in the known universe.

All this quibbling over minute framerates percentage differences is getting tiresome. How about someone popping up w/some info that actually MEANS something?

As far as I can tell, that's not how it works on OCN. OP asks a question, then people flame each other for 5 or so pages. Then the OP leaves/makes a decision, and everyone argues for another 3 or so pages, then the topic either dies or gets locked.

I'd get the GTX280

More memory can help a little bit at the highest resolutions

In terms of what games you can or can't play, the 275 and 280 are the same.
There's not a single game that you can play with the 280 but not the 275 (And vice versa)

truth be told if I was in the market for gfx cards right now I'd probably get one or two 4890's ... only cause I don't fold, though
