Well actually I think my BIOS was reporting the wrong temperature. I've been looking at my temps since I updated my BIOS and they look suddenly more...realistic. I'm gonna overclock right now!

If it's a good average framerate there's something else in my computer that needs fixing. But why are we going on about crysis? it's old, I'm mainly getting the upgrade for GTAIV, which DOES need a LOT of CPU power. (plus quads are good for it).

and you have the same graphics card as me, I just noticed. well, the 8800gt has the same chip virtually, exact same performance, as the 9800gt. Plus the same kind of monitor (i'm guessing 1440x900 like mine).
well crysis is still the king of the pc world
btw warhead does run worse on my rig idk why
waread avg 20+fps

Remember this thread is about Crysis jokes, and he said "Crysis"....thus, he must mean that Crysis itself is a joke.

Ah, I was talking about warhead the whole time! I hardly ever ever ever play the original crysis (especially now there's a warhead 64 bit exec). Yeah actually I didn't notice such lag in the original Crysis, not from what I remember. Not as much anyway.

But as for crysis "still being king of the pc world": how come GTAIV runs worse on the same hardware? Surely it can't just be bad optimization? I know it is a bad console port but still...

Crysis was released in 2007, you must admit that is quite old for saying it's still cutting edge.

CPU bottlenecks are a function of the test you're running, not some absolute reality involving the perf of the gpu vs. the perf of the cpu.

The same setup that exhibits cpu bottlenecks in 3dMark06 may show no sign of cpu bottlenecking running crysis at 1920x1200, for example.

The best way to determine whether there's a cpu bottleneck on a given test is to run the test at stock cpu clocks, note the fps, then overclock the cpu, and note how much (if any) the fps goes up from the CPU overclock.

The closer the % improvement in FPS is to the % of CPU overclock, the more CPU bottlenecking is going on.

But bear in mind, this ONLY APPLIES to the specific test that's being run. On another test (even if its the same game at different resolution or image settings), the amount of bottleneck will likely be different.

EDIT: I do have a low powered PSU (420W) so that might contribute to my non-overclockability.
Well I just tried to overclock my CPU, but it wouldn't go. Just overclocking it by 100MHz stopped it from booting. I think this CPU sucks for overclocking anyway.

But even if the phenom doesn't improve most games, it will improve GTAIV almost certainly (cause of quad cores and better cores), plus I do stuff like video rendering (like to anyway) plus ALOT of photoshop, and that shouldn't depend on the GPU much (or at all, unless it's programmed to take advantage of it).

Default low resolution

I believe y'all think the 9800 will bottleneck cuz you probably run higher resolutions than me. think about it, it would definitely bottleneck at 1920x1200 but are you sure the same would apply with 1440x900? I'm gonna try a ultra low resolution on GTAIV and Crysis in a second, with low graphics settings, and see how much higher my fps is than with high at 1440x900.
