Yea but when i7 comes along or heck if your overkill enough to want tri-sli you might want Skulltrail 2 which could possibly have dual, i7/Gulftown/Nahalem-EX (8 Core) your going to need another PSU. Why not just go for a massive PSU right now and never have to worry about power again.

This. The question "Will I have enough power?" will never come up again. I'm planning to use mine for the next build.

Thanks for replies! It would have been an interesting experiment, but as some folks have pointed out, it looks like I got a bit ahead of myself...didn't notice that my psu only has 4 6-pin connectors. So my weekend of Crysis is on hold...

Unless someone can tell me how to use a secondary psu for a couple of the cards! I've got a 650w Antec laying around that I'm not using...it's not as simple as hooking up the cards and plugging the psu in...is it?

Hmmm, can't you jumper one PSU and use it to power a card or 2? Not sure about this so maybe wait for someone who knows to chime in.

Uh, no. There's a rather ,large difference in price between those set-ups. And the average household outlet wouldn't be able to handle that PSU. So fail in other words.

As to doing something as jank as I did with video cards, I have heard (though no personal experience) that there can be issues if the video card and cpu are not powered on at the same time.

you can use the paper clip method until u get the cable. on the motherboard cable(20-24pin) look for the green wire, put one end of the paperclip in that hole, now find the nearest black wire usually to the left of the green wire and plug the other end of the paper clip in and you will b good to go. hook up a fan to test it tho.

i used the paperclip method for quiet awhile and still use it, but to make it easier for me, i strip a small section of both the green and black wire and twine/twist them together and cover with electric tape. (the cables on that PSU aren't sleeved)

here is a guide
