Too contribute something useful to this thread. I wouldn't get stock cards because you run the risk of getting one that doesn't OC for poo but I wouldn't get a fully maxed out factory OC'ed one either. The way things work is that after making a bunch of cards they test em and those found being capable of higher clocks and picked out and sold as is. So if you buy a SC (Supper Clock) you know your getting one of these hand picked cards so you know from the get go that it's not a POS that won't OC.

and even if you do end up with a poo card that wont oc, you could always just make it not work un-intentionally, and RMA it... just saying

I'm pretty sure they don't fully test the card you sent in before sending out a new one if you have an approved RMA. they send the new one out as soon as they get the package and check that all the S/N's line up (at least with EVGA).
__________________On topic though, I always buy the stock and overclock...most of the time you can't tell much difference between them except for slight benchmark increases anyways. I have an EVGA GTX285 2GB standard that I have overclocked to slightly better than FTW with stock cooling. Get the standard and save some money.
