Default sli detected in wrong slot

here goes i originaly was running one water cooled gtx280 in top PCI-E slot in a 780i mobo then i added another 280 on air i put this one in the bottom slot which the manual said is slot 3 now the man says for running two cards i should have put them in slots 1 an 2 funny thing is they both worked confirmed by a P2250 score in vantage so i just left it.

Now i've just watercooled the second card but i thought i'd put them in slots 1 an 2 now when i went to boot up message on sreen appeared saying card detected in PCI-E_3 for sli move card to PCI-E_2 *** i checked an cards are in slot 1 an 2.

Tried to reseat both cards twice still no good

Tried to run cards in slot 1 an 3 but now that i've watercooled the second card the hose kinks when i put it in the bottom slot so can't try this till i get a 45 or 90 degree fitting.

Anyone got some idea as why cards won't run in the 2 top slots.
Been a long day prob just missed something

Oh yeah tried each card on own an both seem fine no prob.

THANKS>>>>>>

Default

After inserting both video cards, reset the CMOS and try booting to OS. A lot of problems with SLI.

Nah did'nt work oh well guess i'll put it back in bottom slot when i get a 45 or 90 degree fitting unless anyone else has some idea to get middle slot to work for second card.

ALL SORTED got a 90 degree fitting and put 2nd card back in bottom slot installed latest drivers gpu temps at idle 35'c an gets to 44 in vantage running 730/1215/1480
