Default 2 gfx cards in a mobo w/o sli?

ok, so i have an extra video card (a 8600gt) and I was wondering if that would be able to go into my extra PCIe x8 slot which is designed for crossfire. Obviously I need SLI since im an nvidia user, but could I use it as a physX card or for folding even without SLI?

You can use it as physX, or for folding.

Do I know how? No.

But I know for sure folders and alot of other people know how.

turn on the computer lol. Usually with vista it should pick it up but some times when you install two card you have to reinstall the drivers.

Yeh, install second card, install bridge connector, turn on comp, should have a little pop up in the bottom right asking you to turn on SLI. But there is a possibility of needing to uninstall the drivers and reinstalling.

You are going to need to plug a monitor up to that second card. Or a dummy plug to get it folding.

Under nvidia control panel you can auto set it for physx without doing anything, but to fold on it is different.

A different series card, when folding, may reduce the PPD on the main card. Something to watch over time to make a determination. WU dependent, it may be deceptive so don't go by instant results unless the PPD on similar WUs $/time frame drop in the text log file.
