Default PhysX's question

Hello fellow OCN members! Hopefully one of you can help me.

Right, i have just got a BFG 280OC and installed it into my rig. I have that in my PCIE1 Slot and my old BFG 8800GT in my second slot which im hoping to use as the Physxs card.

I just ran 3Dmark 06 and got roughly the following;

OFF - 17021
8800GT - 16807
GTX280 - 16927

I thought they were a bit close, but then i thought that it was old software and that it probably didin't support it.

Got out the old Cysis benchmark and actually there was no difference in FPS either.

I'm plugging my 22inch screen into the 280 and my 17 into the 8800GT. I've done this because i guess it would give the 17inch a whole 8800GT of power to play with?

But thinking about that idea again wolden't it make it less of a Physics card?

Im not sure, should i plug my 17inch into the 280 as well?

ALSO, i thought my PSU might be a bit tight for power. I just felt it and it was bloody hot but these PSU'S have been known to get hot. Here's the specs, is it good enough?

Hope you realize that there will only be marginal imporvements in games that support Physx....which Crysis and 3Dmark06 do not.

EDIT: That is when using one for the Physx processing. I would think that the 280 would have a little higher 3DMark score. There would probably be more of a difference in scores between the 2 cards if you ran 3DMark Vantage instead.

EDIT #2: Looking again at your post, I believe that the 3DMark scores are both for the 280. And when you are running the Crysis Bench, it is using only the 280 Also. Beings the 2 cannot run at the same time unless one is running Physx in a game or app that supports it. So basically everything you are seeing for numbers are comming from the BFG 280.

What jbobb said.

Only a few games support physx acceleration, so you will only see improvements in those particular games. And marginal at that, as those games are designed to not run horribly when you don't have a physx card.

Yep only vantage mirrors edge and some other VERY select games use phyx thus those are the only programs that you will see an improvement in. But now that you have a 8800 in their anyway... START FOLDING

Cheers everyone. Had a feeling incompatibilty would be the biggest issue here.

Thanks again.

PSU could be cutting it close. I'm not an "expert" on that though, so I'll let someone who knows more about the amps and stuff answer that one.

As for the monitor, I'm not sure it really matters either way. If it is displaying correctly anyways.

That's what i was thinking on the PSU front. Let's see what others think.

As for the screen, i was figureing that the second would take resoruces of the GTX280. So was thinking it could have an entire 8800GT

But i have just realiased that DreamScene wont work and that could because the second monitor is on the GT. But ill get back to you on that one and tell you if it's true or not.

Well, I guess if some things dont work with the monitor, it will answer the question for both of us.

+1 to all that helped.

Remember this thread is about Crysis jokes, and he said "Crysis"....thus, he must mean that Crysis itself is a joke.
