So when I first got the card I played Crysis for a solid 30min and had no problems and thought hey I got a great card woohoo. I proceed to OC it a bit and just messing around and all goes well so I go back to stock speeds and play my games. Well GTA 4 was lagging a bit at highest settings so I OC'd a bit to reduce the lag ( furmark was stable ) and proceeded to play GTA 4 and then it got really really laggy.
__________________2d Mode kicks in randomly during gaming and reduces it to a crawl. So I have to run at stock speeds no matter what the OC is it always randomly kicks into 2d mode. So I just say screw it and leave it stock. It's ok for a few days then I decide to apply AS5 and install the new 190.38 drivers. Now it's crashing randomly in games after 20-40minutes. Crysis/Blood brothers/Last Remnant/GTA 4.... NO OC. Max temp during gaming was 52. I don't get it... I really doubt I seated the heatsink wrong but could that be the culprit? I went back to 186.18 drivers and crashes again after 25min of gaming. RMA time? Step up to a 285gtx? Help... -Edit- Be back in 2hours. Leave responses if you know a solution thanks for the help OCN.

I'm sorry to bombard with a bunch of questions, but how is it crashing? Are you getting a BSOD, is it going to your desktop, locking up until restart, etc.? The reason is, it could be a complete coincidence that your system is freezing for something completely unrelated to the video card. Your RAM modules could have become faulty, your CPU could not be accepting the OC very well anymore, or your power supply could be going bad. Before you come to the conclusion that OC'ing your 260 has caused your computer to lock up, run some tests (Memtest 86+, P95, OCCT) to make sure your video card is probably the culprit and to rule out other parts of your system.
__________________I know this isn't the answer you want to hear, but if you're frustrated enough to believe that one piece of hardware is bad no matter what, you could be out a lot of money replacing the wrong part. Seriously though, if you're getting the BSOD "Machine Check Exception", you could have other issues.

A lots of things could have happened to you: improperly seated heatsink , static-discharged, damaged overclocking... But sorry I really can't figure it out what have happened to you. I think you should RMA it, but for a replacement, it's a nice card after all.

No its not a BSOD. Some examples.
__________________Was playing Last Remnant ( JRPG game ) and was in a battle scene. I was playing the game for atleast a hour and then all the sudden in a battle scene when I go to attack it just freezes up ( music stops and makes that BADADADADAD sound...if that makes sense ) so I alt-f4 and it alt+tabs and then goes back into the game ( I dunno why alt+f4 didn't close the game ) It goes back into the game and all the colors are bright green/blue/red/black and messed up then it goes back to normal in 4-5 seconds and I continue playing. Playing Call of Juarez Blood brothers for atleast 30min and then it just freezes up and makes the BADADADAD noise like the music or w/e freezing up you know the wierd sound it makes. Then my computer just resets. No BSOD no crash to desktop it just resets. It can't hold a OC at all either because of the 2d-3d power saving modes this card has which I don't really care for since I don't pay the electricity bill anyway to disable it to get a stable OC? CPU Voltage - 1.328 Ram voltage - 2.200 Speeds - 4000mhz/500mhz/2000fsb Stable in Orthos for 13.00 hours. I will run a memtest

If that doesn't solve your problems, try setting your CPU/RAM/FSB/voltages back to stock to see if it makes a difference. If it does not, then it may be time to RMA the card.

You got some major compatability and driver issues. Lets fix you up.
__________________Boot into safe mode and uninstall nvidia nvidia phsyc and nvidia stereoscope ,,, if you see them. Then run driver sweeper found @ www.guru3d.com and choose nvidia and clean. After this reboot into normal mode and install latest WHQL 190.38 and then install rive tuner afterwords. Their you can take control of your GPU HSF fan and make it go slower or faster. Default is 30 percent. Take it to 100 percent and play games see what happens. GL
