Hey guys,
I seem to have ran across a weird issue that I ran into while testing out my new GTX295 in two computers (mine and a friend's). Originally, I just got it today and decided to test it out on my friend's computer first. When I ran Crysis, it got 39 FPS on his system, which was about right for 1920x1200 all Very High, no AA, DX10. Specs Motherboard: EVGA 790i Ultra SLI CPU: E8400 C0 @ 3.8Ghz RAM: 4GB DDR3 @ 7-7-7-20 timings Hard Drives: Western Digital 500GB SATA (RAID0) OS: Windows Vista 64-bit SP2 GPU Drivers: 190.38 Then, I just got home and tested the same settings on my system and got 34 FPS on the same exact settings. The weird thing is, I have better specs (except for RAM and RAID type). Specs Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R (P45 Chipset) CPU: E8600 E0 @ 4.35Ghz RAM: 4GB DDR2 @ 5-5-5-15 timings Hard Drives: Hitachi 500GB SATA (RAID1) OS: Windows Vista 64-bit SP2 GPU Drivers: 190.38 The problem is not only in Crysis. Far Cry 2 is running much choppier and worse FPS than it did for him. These are all the games I have tested so far. Also, along with that I noticed when I first installed the GTX295 in my computer, it installed the two GPU drivers into device manager and also three devices called "PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge" into device manager as well. I don't recall if the same thing happened for my friend though. Can anyone come up with an explanation for what may be going on here? As far as I know, the GTX295 should be using it's own built-in SLI chipset so I'm pretty sure the fact that my friend has an SLI chipset on the motherboard and I don't isn't the issue.

Beats the hell outta me bro. The 190.xx drivers have been known to give some people problems. I'd try rolling back to 186.xx.

Also can anyone explain what those three "PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge" devices are?

His hard drive may be cleaner than yours, or you just need to kill some stuff in the background. There is a lot of variables, try those few things and update the status. Like said before, the drivers fluctuate.

I also did a test with 4xAA in Crysis and my friend got 33 FPS while I'm getting 30 FPS right now so something still seems weird.

Try the 185.20 drivers. They are the best with all my nVidia cards, 8800GTX, 8800 Ultra, 8800GTS 512 and an 8800GT.

Were 186.18 worse for you? Also keep in mind this is a dual gpu card.

![]() Well the 186.18 seem to be fine for me at the moment. Much much better than the 190.38. Still is a pretty odd difference. Anyone else have any theories?

Did you play with the drivers settings at all or are they default as installed? Depending on what you change in the drivers settings that can impact performance. When your computer is idle what is the CPU and memory ussage?
__________________When you were at your buddy's place. Did you guys used the current installed drivers or did a clean drivers installation. By clean I mean, getting rid of the old drivers, running a driver cleaner and maybe ccleaner after and then installing the new drivers. Because it's possible that he was using some custom drivers that are tweaked? or maybe he changed something for better performance. Are you possitive that you are using the exact same settings you tried on his system? I mean your system has better specs and it just doesn't make sense that it would be slower on your system with the exact OS and amount of RAM. Otherwise maybe it's just his DDR3 memory. I guess DDR3 does kick DDR2 ass but I can't really see memory giving extra FPS over higher CPU speed. Was his FSB much higher than yours? This could make a difference too. Oh yeah when you say you are getting 34 FPS @ 1920x1200 all Very High, no AA, DX10. Is this on benchmark? If so which benchmark and what level. I want to compare my scores with yours. But my monitor can't do 1920x1200, can you do 1600x1200 with the same settings and then try with 4X AA and also make sure your anisotropic filtering is at 16X because I always have it at 16X.
