Most impressively, it does so while remaining considerably quieter. The difference in noise at idle is like night and day. I also got 712/1512 stable on my co-op whereas the dualie could only manage 675/1476. So, while there are inherently not any huge differences in perf between the two cards ... there are definitely reasons to prefer one over the other. And BTW ... the phrase is 'for all intents and purposes', not 'for all intensive purposes'

Yeah I hate the idle noise with auto fan. I can hear it over 3 undervolted san aces and 4 undervolted S Flex G's. It's just annoying. I have a feeling that the CO OP has a much more pleasing fan sound under load as well.

I agree with most. I'm trying to sell my 285's right now to make way for some 9800x2's just so I can fold and not have it so damned hot in here.

__________________The 295 has a ~25% performance advantage over the 5870 across the board. It overclocks significantly farther - I've squeezed a 30% OC out of mine, whereas the 5870 is lucky to hit 15%. The 5870 cost $400 at every site I checked, versus ~$460 for a 295. Your paying 15% less for 25% less performance and ~10% less overclocking ability. Really, the only advantage I can see is if you run a lot of monitors - which could be a big deal for some - or want to take advantage of DX11 in a few years. But given the adoption rates for DX10, virtually everyone here will be running GTX 495s by the time that happens. Frankly, I was less then impressed with the 5870s. I held off on my build a full month waiting for them, only to buy a 295 the day they came out after reading many reviews and benchmarks. Right now, from a performance standpoint NVIDIA has both the top end (2x295 or 4x285 in a few motherboards), and the best higher performance to price ratio. Considering that they are using tech that's over a year old, I expect great things from the new GT300s - but a modest update, not one worth waiting indefinitely for. Waiting for the 5870s taught me a valuable lesson ![]() And no, I'm not a NVIDIA fanboy, I was just extremely dissapointed in the 5870. And as an added bonus, my 295 runs CUDA nicely - I've been using it for a ton of various programs, and the performance boost where it is used is truly astonishing.
