I really didn't know how to refer to them as; whether to call the first gen of 295 "reference" cards, but I never did check out when they decided to switch the layout for the 295s. Did they switch the PCBs? Any links I can read up on the switch I'd appreciate. Got a 295 on the way, and just wanted to know if there was anything I needed to know in reference to the first ones.

The old 295 has a dual PCB and the newer revision has a single PCB and a quieter fan. It also runs cooler. The cards perform exactly the same. EVGA coined the term "CO-OP" for the revised, single PCB version.

Actually I believe the single PCB version has a slightly higher stock memory speed.

Unlike most people on here who are, indeed "fanboys" lol, I would easily buy 2 9800GX2s and be pleased as a pumpkin because I just like what I like. I've never had a 295 or ran 2 295s. IMO the 5870 is overhyped. I AM NOT SAYING IT ISN'T A GOOD GPU. Why pass up the opportunity to run such a great GPU? Plus, what isn't 2 295s gonna max out for the next year or so? People are wasting money on "the dx11" cards. I don't remember 10 games that dx10 optimized. So what is dx11 gonna do so different?

edit: nvm, i just saw that the 295's prices have been dropped to about $465 for cheapest
