No use recycling old tech. If you can get $40-$60 for each of those cards, you'll be able to afford a brand new card.
I'm sorry, but that part in bold is just not true. Two 8800GTS 640MB cards in SLI easily beat a single 8800GTX (Source). A single 8800GTS 640MB generally performs around the level of an HD3850 (Source). Although, IIRC, the G80 won't typically scale as well in multiple card configurations as R600 GPUs.

Age, in and of itself, is inconsequential - although I do agree that 8800GTS will generally put out more heat and use more power (relative to performance) than what we have currently on the market. Whether or not that's a problem for the OP is up to him. EDIT: No offense, I just tire of the old "it's old" argument (no pun intended). I understand older hardware is generally less efficient, but it's situational and should be explained in a specific case as to why a piece of hardware should or shouldn't be used/sold/etc.

@ OP - While your power supply may be sufficient, and the heat may not be an issue for you, I would still probably suggest at least looking into purchasing a newer (single) card that will be equal to or greater than 8800GTS SLI performance. As darksideleader mentioned, you could probably sell each one of those cards for ~$50 each, which could be put into a single card that would suit your needs. You wouldn't have to worry about scaling issues (trust me, they do exist, albeit more so in some games than in others).

No cost to you? Then totally go for it. Your current PSU should have no problem keeping up. The G80s don't scale as well as the G92s, but even still it's a free performance boost, and will definitely give you a decent amount of performance gain!

They produce heat, they take up power. But if the cards are already there, then why not use them? XD It's like if I were to inherit a Porche from the 70s, but kept it in the garage because it was old!

G'luck

Yeah I too once had 8800GT SLI and it micro-stuttered bad at the time which was a few months after they came out. I never tried G80 SLI but I imagine it wouldn't be much better. Though, GTX 280 SLI was nice and I very rarely experienced micro-stuttering with those, and my 5870s now are just as smooth.
