edit: BTW this process is used to initially solder chips onto the PCB when they make the boards. Manufactures don't solder the chips terminal by terminal .

Thanks for that!

Already did it and it still has the same problem. I might try it again with higher temperature and leting it in longer. If it's the same type of problem it should work, but it could always be something completely different such as burnt capacitor or MOFSETS. People with YLODing PS3s or RRODing 360s have successfully done this to repair their consoles. I've been reading around and it seems some have had success with motherboards also.

If you have nothing to lose I say try it . Although I take no responsibility in what might happen .

Couldn't have said it better. This card is what started CUDA, PhysX and took folding to the next level. Even though it's three years old, it's still a very respectable gaming card. Well worth the 600$ I spent on it when it first came out.

Um hate to say it, but that just voided your warranty, and a shot at the possibly very good "RMA gambling" game. 8800GTX would have yielded a 9800GTX or possibly GTX 260.

That's what I planned at first but my warranty was already expired with MSI. I RMAd it once and they sent me a stock edition of the 8800GTX (I had the OC edition) and it failed in less than a month. The guy at the retailer it was bought called MSI for RMA and told me it took everything for them just to take it back and find a 8800GTX to replace it. He said there was no way they were giving me an "upgrade" and it cost me 25$ of shipping.

This goes to say I might never buy a MSI graphics card again. Next time I'm going with something that has lifetime warranty hopefully and better customer support.

Note: Could you tell me how it ruins my warranty? The warranty stickers are all intact and I know for a fact removing the heatsink does not void it. The only reason I can't RMA it now is that it works .

Ah, gotcha.

As long as the stuff is intact, it is still "under warranty", in all practical sense, but legally it is probably not covered, though I haven't seen any literature specifically saying "do not install in oven".

Yea, I decided not to go MSI with my stuff; especially after one of their motherboards some how began developing the habit of toasting my power supplies!

Good work, and Kudo's to you man!
