Hmmm I keep getting these when I fold on it:

Quote:
NANs detected on GPU
[13:44:28]
[13:44:28] Folding@home Core Shutdown: UNSTABLE_MACHINE

Now i'm wondering if this can be caused by overheating GPU? My GPU stays at a stable 91°C while folding which seems pretty high. I reapplied thermal paste (AS5) two different ways (dot in the middle and spreading it with a card) to no avail and the card has no dust in it.

I get more NANs when it's overclocked but I still get some when it's stock. It also seems as though certain types of WU can be done and others just fail.

I'm not expecting much from this card being fixed by baking in an oven and all but it would be nice for it to be able to fold properly.

Any insight on my situation would be appreciated . Thanks

btw I'm running on 191.07 drivers in Windows 7

EDIT: Woot 500th post

if it does it at stock speeds, try lowering the core clock, and leaving the shader stock. Did you replace all the thermal pads and everything on the card? 91 is pretty toasty for a video card, on air mine hit 80*c at stock speeds and were ok folding, but now on water they run at 38-42. If they hit 45 at this overclock I will get Unstable machine errors.

Also, I have been having issues with certian work units. Delete the work folder, restart, and do that a few times. If it fixes it, woot!

In short: underclock core, shader at stock speeds, Reapply thermal pads, delete work folder!

this trick worked on my friends laptop video card that was giving vertical lines. We both were like It works though, wish I had more dead cards to try it out with.

Thanks, I underclocked my card and it's folding as we speak. It's been folding for around an hour and no problems yet but I need to test more WUs to make sure. If it happens again I'll try deleting the work folder. Although I doubt that will change since I just did a clean install and it was doing that before too.

As for the thermal pads, I used the same ones since they were perfectly intact (and I don't have any spares ). One was broken though and I replaced it with AS Ceramic (not on a ram but a VRM). I'll try lowering the memory frequency also, those might be overheating too. I know that the G80 GPU should be fine up until 110C but it's still probably too hot for it to run without errors anyway.

Thanks again +rep

Nice. I wish I had other cards to revive by baking too. It's very satisfying taking your baked card out of the oven smelling like hot solder then put it back in your rig and seeing it running a lot better than it was before .

for what its worth, right after my fresh install of W7, I had about 10 WU's in a row that I had to delete and continue, and it is now going fine.

Hmm that's odd. What drivers are you using? Also if it's a certain WU that crashes is there a parameter such as -advmethods and -forceasm that could help?

I just checked my logs and the 5767 WU always pass but the 5768 WU keep getting a NAN errors. Is there a way to block 5768 WUs?
