What temps were you pushing in Crysis? I imagine it'd be rather high after 3 straight hours.
Based on what I saw in Precision, it was no more than approximately 68-70°C with the fan at 65%.

Try bumping the fan to 90% if you can stand the noise. Those temps aren't bad for operating temps after 3 hours, but it is probably what is limiting your shaders from going higher. Around 55C-60C is when my shaders start becoming unstable for OC'ing past 1458.

Yeah, I was think about that, so I decided that since it gets kind of annoying for me as I exceed 65% that I would just go back to stock. I mean, it doesn't feel worth it if I'm only going to get less than 100 MHz more out of the core, and less than 200 MHz more out of the shader. I mean, it wasn't stable at 684/1440/999 either, so I have it back to stock. But it doesn't surprise me since this is my third GPU with this motherboard, and I haven't been able to overclock any of them.

Very Nice guide. My only beef within the entire guide is that after you find your max overclock in ATI Tool, you need to do a reality check in a game. I find that Crysis Benchmark works incredibly well at finding instabilities in just a few minutes. I've had ATI Tool tell me I could run the 1564 shader strap, but I can't run Crysis unless I'm all the way down at the 1458 shader strap. Personally, I skip ATI Tool and start with Crysis benchmark, but it's still a usefull program

Great Write Up +1

Yeah, that was my next step in updating the guide with the game benchmark part, just haven't had time to sit down and put down everything I want to put into it yet.

I have the day off tomorrow - so I'll probably get to it then.

Just so you know, clock for clock, the memory overclock is just as important as the rest of them on the 260's, esp. if you run AA. And memory clocks aren't really dependent too much on temps, so if you cant OC the other two without having to bump fan speeds, you should at least overclock your vram.

Really, though, I don't understand why you would think of OC'ing in such an 'all or nothing' kind of way. Set your fan to highest level where it doesn't bug you, and just OC the card as high as it will stably go at that fan speed.

Honestly, ANY overclock is 'worth it', provided it's not detracting from your enjoyment of your machine in some other way. It's just extra performance, for free. Why not take it?

Finally got around to updating this again, added the game benchmark. Still looking for suggestions for other, preferably standalone, game benchmarks. I tried to keep it in a reasonable length while giving a wide spectrum of performance levels.

Again, please let me know if you have anything else to add to this.

Added SLI section, looking at this to be the final revision unless someone see's some glaring mistake I've overlooked. Again, please let me know if you have anything you think would be a useful addition!
