So between one strap, and another, although there are many "ticks" betwixt them, the card will only run at the given strap frequency.

Realize that you are actually switching between the 1548 and 1566 shader straps. I would go for the 774mhz core and 1548 shader personally as the higher core will give more of a real benefit IMO.
