LMAO!

And why even try? thats probably going to make that card perform as well as a $70 card

Still kind of jerky for him to not give you the card. Extract a free steak from you instead or something...
Not my place to comment on people's step fathers I suppose.

Still, an e machine doesn't deserve that card.

Anyway, I'd be just as concerned about the cpu bottlenecking the gpu as I would the x1 slot. The slot will lose you about 25% theoretical performance right there...add a cpu bottleneck and you're down to like half power.. That's a sad waste of a great gpu.

Edit:
Ducky makes a great point. I would be very concerned that the PSU wouldn't be able to take it. I doubt it as a pcie connector anyway, you'll have to use a molex converter.....

I wouldn't risk it, if the PSU goes it could take out the rest of the system with it.

I think he has some crapola 350W PSU that came in there stock. I gave him a 450W that came inside a case I purchased for my HTPC but even that is underspec. It might be able to handle the load because, let's be honest, even my DEV_RIG in my sig below only consumes about 225W under full load from a stress testing even though i have a 1000W PSU in there but in terms of rails and leads, it's woefully inadequate. I'd had to hook up so many splitters on the molexes you'd end up with with the GPU, the DVD and the HDD all being on the same leads (having been split six ways)...

It's not really when you consider I was about to trash the dead card anyways... plus considering i can run in SLI mode with my non-nvidia m/b, I can't use both cards.

I thought about giving him my old card, but since I modded the original 8800GTX to have a ThermalRight HR-03 on it, there is no way I'm going to give him that card because, if for _whatever reason_ it stops working it will end up being because I modded it and not because he's trying to strap a bullet train to wooden rails, lol.

I figure if he gets it to work, great, if he doesn't, then he can't blame me for it.

-----
Additionally, he *did* initially give me the card, but since my rig has been in pieces for the last six months while I work on my wire-management project and I'm not using it anyways, I might as well let him use it. I'm not losing anything on it, I didn't have an extra card before and I don't have an extra card now. (I started off with two of them in SLI mode on my ASUS P5N32 motherboard but that was such a POS I burned it out three times and after the second RMA I gave up and got me a my GIGABYTE m/b I have now with no SLI.

I know he's going to look into getting a new PSU but I'm thinking that the stupid emachine won't be able to fit is since it's, well, an emachine, lol...
