Default Driver Benchmarks (just Crysis Warhead so far)

I'm still trying to settle on a good graphing approach, so I'll just post the hard numbers.

The drivers I tested with are: 186.18 WHQL, 191.07 WHQL, and 195.35 Beta.

I tested Crysis Warhead on all enthusiast settings. For each bench I did 3 flythroughs on cargo (Shore Leave).

For each driver install I did a clean uninstall with driver cleaner pro. All of these benchies are on my sig rig, with SLI enabled.

This is a work in progress, I will get other games benched once I work out patch issues.

Very helpful, thanks! +1

Are my eyes broken, or do the newer drivers really drag down fps?

Could ambient occlusion be a culprit? Do you get that option in the nvidia control panel when you use 186.xx drivers? It definitely is an fps-killer. Enthusiast setting may employ it when enabled in later drivers.

Not sure about that, but I can say when I ran the 195's there was noticeable 'fluttering' in the background that wasn't there in the other two. So, in addition to lower FPS it also decreased in quality. Good job Nvidia.

So it would be safe to say that the 186.18 would be better than 191.07 for an 8800 GTS. I ask because I don't see too many of these video cards in peoples signatures when talking about drivers so it makes me wonder if the results would be the same for the most part.

That would seem to be the trend, but there is no way to be 100% certain without trying it yourself.

Later I may incorporate single card as well, just for completeness. Although like ChIck3n said most likely the 186.18's are the best. I have them installed now.

I can confirm that 195.39 gave me lower average fps in the original Crysis and also my FPS spiked at one point going to insanely low fps and then it went back to normal. This also happeend to me before in another beta driver. I can't remember which one though. So I'm back on 191.07.

Beta drivers do funny things. I think the fastest drivers I had for Crysis might have been 190.62

Hmm I may test these later then. Although uninstalling/reinstalling drivers is such a pain .

Yeah, those 195's are pretty bad, minimum FPS is what matters most to me, and it really bombed it, while the 186's were the best by quite a bit (relatively).

EDIT: I also got World in Conflict sorted out, so I'll probably be testing them today. I really only want to test games with time demos or built in benchmarks, but I will test others if need be.
