Default Best Nvidia card for $110 or less?

I do a lot of video editing and will be venturing into 3d work as well. For that reason I want to get an Nvidia card because PhysX can be used in some 3d programs and gpu acceleration is more compatible than ATI in the applications I use. Because of power supply limitations (Corsair 400CX), I've decided to get a 9800GT/8800GT. In particular, I'm considering this MSI 9800GT 256-bit 1GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127441

Now here's my question, this card is $110... I actually wish there were some 8800GTs for cheap in the For Sale forums but there's not. Anyway, is there a different Nvidia card I should consider over the 9800GT?

I was considering the 9600GSO as it's only $70, but the 9800GT's extra performance seems like it's worth the $40. Also, should I get the 1GB or 512MB 9800GT? I do game a bit at 1600x1200, so that's why I chose the 1GB.

Muchas gracias to anyone who replies!

The GTS 250 or a used GTX 260 would be a better choice.

Look around the forums, post a wanted thread, you might be surprised.

Wish I could, just lacking the REPs right now. I've done a good amount of searching through the For Sale forums and the best is a 8800GT for $65, which actually is pretty good, but I still think a brand new 1GB card for $110 is nicer...

I was going to get the GTX 260 originally but it won't work unless I buy a new PSU (I have a good amount of hard drives and a high overclock). Here's the info I compiled from the Nvidia site:

9800GTX -141w
GTX 260 - 182w
9500GT - 50w
9600GSO - 90w
8800GT - 105w
9800GT - 105w
GTS250 - 150w
GTS240 - 120w

The 9800GTX might work actually as its 41w less but I'm not sure either way, so better not to risk it.

EVGA 9800GT 109 bucks.

Only 512 MB of mem but it runs at 1800MHz. If you pencil it (easily removed if RMA is needed) you could get about 825 on the core. My tiny 9500GT is pushing 850 right now but the mem chokes it--this only runs 586, this one (9800) is 825MHz faster on the mem.

PCI cards won't work in PCI-Express busses.

If you mean a PCI-Express 2.0 card in a PCI-Express x4 slot, you could, but you would lose bandwidth

How much of it?

Thank you very much

Mostly, when busses run at x8 speed, there is a little performance, hit, but you should be able to notice a decrease in fps

Sparkle GT220 69 bucks. Life time warranty--same thing, pencil it and RMA it if you have to...just remove the pencil. Check those specs: 300w psu..? 1GB DDR3 @ 1400MHz..? A good oc could make this CUDA worthy indeed...

Good luck however you decide bro.
