I'm actually sad that a Admin/Mod said he can't post how he did it or go in detail. Last I checked this was a Overclocking and Enthusiast forum. But I guess not anymore.

I stand corrected. So it is possible, you just wont utilize all the pins for transfer.

Correct, by having a smaller slot there are just fewer lanes so there will be less bandwidth.
