I got my GTS250 about a month ago and the first thing I did with it was a bit of gaming and some folding. I heard that if I OC'd the shaders I'd manage to pull about 7k ppd, so off I went researching about OCing a graphics card. I learned about ATItool and Furmark, and ran both of them. Much to my dismay, even on stock settings, I was getting lots of yellow dots on ATItool and black bits in Furmark, plus I was getting random looking things popping up in games.
Took it back to supplier and they found no fault with it. They suggested a new PSU, which, when I looked closer at my PSU's sticker, was the most likely cause of the artifacts. My old PSU only pushed 400W continuous to a GTS250... ![]() My dad got my sig PSU as an early Christmas present for me, and while there were much less artifacts, they were still there. So I started up ATItool to find rows upon rows of yellow artifacts. I was running on Win 7 64bit at the time, which I thought perhaps ATItool wasn't liking. I go to XP 32 (I tri-boot xD without issues) and still artifacts. Maybe it was getting too hot? I switch off and get my mom's hairdryer out, put it on cold and blow it directly into the cooler. Once the air coming out the back was cold, I went straight back into XP 32 and started up ATItool. I nearly lost my head. Rows of artifacts along the top. *insert indecent word describing anger here* I then set the clocks to low power mode (300/100/600) and let it run like that for a while. No artifacts. I set it back to default clocks, and guess what? NO ARTIFACTS??? BUT HOW? Honestly, I don't know what to do any more. I'm taking my whole PC to the supplier later this afternoon to show them, but I have a strange feeling it won't have any issues. A normal working card shouldn't artifact at all on normal clocks, correct?

You should get no artifacts at stock clocks. Have you tried contacting XFX?

Yup. Problem is, they can't really do anything in South Africa, I have to do everything via the supplier. I don't even get the double lifetime warranty

So... the card is currently not artifacting, right? If not, play with it. Watch the temperatures and if it starts up again, immediately take it to the supplier.
