I'm glad I am not the only person who was thinking that exact thing.

You can't have ANY launch, paper or otherwise, without an actual product to move.

The more new customers ATI gets ![]() LOADS of die hard Nvidia fans I know have said they wouldn't mind waiting till Xmas to get Fermi but no longer, looks like they'll all be getting ATI cards for xmas then

Why not? It's very possible... Glue together a PCB and show the product. Voila, you just did a conference without having any card available. If Nvidia really had anything, we would start to see leaks in benchmarks, pictures, etc... just like with the 5970 and even 5870.

But a conference isn't a launch. It's foreplay.

At this rate fermi will have to be twice to three times as fast as ati's top card. By March the 6000 series will be on the horizon. I know this is all speculation though.

If you mean the 5970 then you are the same as me. Waiting to see both cards made sense but I've already struggled holding off buying a 5870 and there is no way I'll be able to resist the 5970 with the gt300 so far out still

Yeah, I think the key thing to remember with tech is that most companies only want to innovate as far as they have to. Why lay all your cards on the table when your previous hand is raking in the cash?
If Nvidia fails to come out with anything that dominates the 5-series, you will probably only see a refresh from ATI. If they have a real contender, you might see an aggressive push from ATI to get another series out. I would imagine that, given the market domination ATI will have over the next 2-2.5 months, that ATI would be more willing to refine their process and hit NVIDIA with lower prices on existing product than release a new line.
