Yes, it's named after Enrico Fermi, just like every other instance of 'Fermi' people have listed. He was an influential scientist.

Fermi is the name of one of a teacher I had back when I lived in Spain. he was teaching catalan. His breath smelled SO horribly I was having difficulties breathing while he was in front of me speaking... so yeah. I dont like the name Fermi AT ALL!
