it's a decent upgrade for higher resolutions. i myself stepped up from a 4850 to a 4870 and I gained quite a few frames @ 1680x1050. I don't game nearly
enough to warrant the best of the best, so for me it was defiantly an upgrade. Just my 2 cents.

IMO it's a good deal. I have 3 BFG260's and they're great but I just don't see you getting much of a gain with that size monitor so get the card and a bigger monitor.

Tom's Hardware GPU Hierarchy Chart. This puts the 260 on par with the 4870.

OCN GPU Ranking Chart. This puts the 4850 substantially behind the 260.

Is the 260 a 216 Core or the 192 Core?

I actually did the exact same upgrade and what I found was:

- The GTX260 is a much less power hungry and much more quiet card
- It deals with any game out at the moment with ease where my HD4850 would stutter and struggle
- The drivers are much nicer and more user friendly

Whether this is worth $100 is up to you. Example of performance increase is about 25% extra in Crysis Warhead; the real difference was the smoothness of play though.

Don't do it. Wait for either the 5890 or the GF300 series. you will see a much more noticable difference in performance and you will also get your money's worth.
