Ilooking to buy a new mobo, is there that much of a diffrence in SLI if the PCI-e slot are 8 or 16?

Not really. If you're talking about pci-e 2.0 8x, then you could even run a 5870 at 99% full speed on that.

8x 2.0 = 16x 1.0

If the card you are getting with SLI/CF aren't monster powerful, they won't be bottlenecked.

So it really doesn't matter on pci-e 2.0 if it 8x or 16x for the SLI

The first cards to majorly bottleneck x8 PCI-e 2.0 slots will be the 59XX cards. If you have a 5870 or worse, it will not bottleneck in an x8 slot.

Newer graphics cards may bottleneck PCI-e 2.0 8x. Current cards do not really get bottlenecked.

So just buy a 8x board, wuold buying a 16x be a waste, or future proof. I probly buy 2 new Nvida cards anyways.
