Unhappy GTX 280: Purple Demons Everywhere! :O

So in EVERY game that I try to play with SLI enabled, it flashes purple stuttering effects on the start movie, menu, and in-game.

These same games run perfectly fine when using only one card, even with both cards physically in the system.

I first noticed this in Titian Quest: Immortal Throne, and it also happens in the original, as well as all Valve-made games and C&C: Generals.

I have tried all versions of the 19x.xx drivers for 7 64-bit, to no avail.

The cards seem to be very hot (almost burnt myself), even with the fans at 80%.

My specs and overclock are below.

My thoughts are to disconnect the system, reseat the cards, and put everything at stock.

If the problems persists, then reinstall.

Any comments, or are those the right things to do in this situation?

Your card is artifacting, because the OC is too high.

You have to either lower the OC until stable, or get things cooler. (If my guess is right).

Have you tested both cards individually, or just one?

BTW, the cards are not overclocked, the CPU was. Now that it's also at stock with fans at 80%, still get the same results.

Once again, it only happens in SLI.

EDIT:

One of the cards has a high-pitched whining noise when I try to run a game in SLI. Is one of the cards basically dead?

That is just cap squeal, which is harmless, although some companies will take an RMA for that.

Enough heat will cause a card to artifact at stock clocks.

You may also have an actual demon infestation.

Are you prepared to reject satan from your soul?

Okay, guys. I fixed it. What I did was this:

Rolled up to the newest 195 Beta Drivers.
Took the PC apart, used monitor wipes and canned air to dust it all out (especially the 280s).
Took out a hard drive I wasn't using.
Swapped the cards.
Put in a new SLI bridge.
Booted up to a hard freeze.
Loaded BIOS defaults and booted again.

Now everything runs fine.

I'll try getting a stable OC again soon, though. I'll just load defaults next time it happens (if it does).

Also, the prayer may have helped.

Sounds like a similar issues I had with a friends rig. Turned out to be his board and not the cards. Screen flickers and wild purple and red colors anytime SLi is enabled.

Try downclocking both cards and see if that helps.

For reference, beta v195 also fixed some of my issues (choppy gameplay in Left 4 Dead 2 demo)

Like I said, problems solved. New SLI bridge and dusted out the innards, applied v195. ^__^
