I think a lot of what you do will be limited by your budget; the GTS 250 will be less of a problem for your wallet than the 4890 would be.

Try snagging a used Q6600 off OCN. People bag on the Q6600 a bit unfairly IMO. It's still a nice solid upgrade from an E6300 and being quad core, can help in certain applications.

ETA: Ooh, you have a Q6600 too.

Try this - get a used Q9450 off OCN, drop your Q6600 in wife's computer. Sell E6300 to try and get back some of the cost. TBH tho a core 2 of that speed and era will not be worth much.

Q8400 - http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SLGT6
Q9400 - http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SLB6B

I would opt for the Q9450 just as it's easier to find.

well I pulled my vcard out and put hers in, and then ran EQ2 and with my set up and my card i was getting 65-85 fps in this one area, but heres I only has about 20 fps so its not just her card. so I need to up her CPU and Ram(by 2gigs to get her rig like mine). well, I have 4gigs ram at 1000Mhz where her is 2gigs at 667mhz so I am think if I just get her CPU and Ram up to or close to mine spec over her Vcard and see what it does then.

If you want some RAM buy some off Valicious; she's selling some right now. Unfortunately I sold my Q9550 about a month back or I'd ask if you wanted to buy it.

I COULD HAVE HAD A V8 *SLAP. lol, well got to messing around by pulling my ram and testing this way and that. Well, she was getting the same FPS in this area of 8-14 FPS. Well, I told her to move from windowed to Full screen and all of a sudden the FPS jump to 32-45 FPS so we fixed and she is running her normal system lol. I still want to put 2 more gigs of ram. and when we get me a Q9400 or so I give her mine Q6600 and then she will be siting pretty. Thank you guys.

I usually use HWMonitor for general temp and voltage readouts. For reading at the cores HWMonitor is OK but you may need to double-check what the TJMax is for your CPU. There is also a utility called Core Temp for readouts just of temperatures at the CPU cores.

Get the GTS 250 i just bought it like 5 hours ago. I can put all the settings on high and 2xAA at 1680x1050 for Crysis. The fps are in the lower to mid 20's in the highest combat (the minimum)

go for XFX its worth ever penny and more i love mine

plus the card is large but not huge like some monsters

There is a 512 and a 1gb imo the 512 is plenty

There is a 1GB that comes with a 4gb OCZ flash drive to
