Hello all,
I have a question, I have a older gtx 260 with the 192 I think it is, but anyways, My wife computer needs an upgrade on her vcard because we are gaming together now. And she has a 9600 gt, and we have about $100 or so we can spend. I was looking at the Galaxy - NVIDIA GT 220 1GB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card, would it out do the 9600gt or should I look at a HD 4470 or something like that? And how is the GTS 250? but I know if I can push our buget to about 170 or so for something like BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 260 GTX OC MAXCORE 55 896MB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card but i am not use, I know we have about $100 so with all the ones I suggested which are good and which are bad. what would you suggest? Ok. First of all, do not even bother with the GT220. Here's how bad it is. It basically matches your 9600GT.
Second, take that $100, and go buy a HD4770 or a HD4850 if you can find a good deal. Replace her 9600GT and be happy. On the other hand, if you want to spend a lil more cash, put your GTX 260 in wifey's machine and go grab that maxcore edition thing or a HD4870.

Oh yeah, the 5770 and 5750 are pretty nice from the looks of 'em. Not stellar, mind you, compared to the 5850 etc but they can hold their own. I would, TBH, if you're considering crossfire down the road, snag a 5770 now and then when you have more cash later, grab another one.
Two 5770s together match the performance of a 5850 and just about touch a 5870's most times. Now, keep in mind -- 5770 $170 Cdn 5870 $450 Cdn ![]() Re 4870/90.. They are good and solid cards. I have a Powercolor factory overclocked version m'self, and it does everything I want it to without complaint. Can't go wrong buying one. I suggest getting a used one off OCN though to try and get a break on price.

Well, I cant crossfire right now, her computer is only 1 psi express slot and mine is a nvida board. I will be building another later just not right now trying to get hers up to where I can play with her in some games but also EQ2 mainly has a problem when getting in alot of stuff even in a raid style set up that strips everything to min and she is still only getting 15 or so FPS so want to get her something better. her system is:
6300 2g ram and a 9600 gt. not the best but I thing alot of her problem is the vcard. and maybe needs more ram too. but anyways. which is better to get a 5570 or a 4890?

Hmm - given that some manufacturers have had teething problems on the 5xx0 series and there's availability issues anyway, I'd plump for someone's used 4890 from OCN. Next year after things settle down you can always give your wife the 4890 and go for a 5850 or something.
![]() PS. by 6300 do you mean the older Core 2 Duo @ 1.83 GHz or the newer Pentium Dual Core @ 2.8 GHz?

the older 1.83 its been along time since we built our computers and when we built hers she only really used it for small games and cruise the internet. I have changed her. So if I get the 4890, should I keep it and give my wife my 260 (192)? my spec is below.

Getting a 4870 should be more then enough for her day to day needs, or even the 5770. And dont worry about crossfire, just get whats in your budget(which I noticed all of them are not)
You can get this card for $110 GTS250(aka 9800GTX+) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127423 would be a decent upgrade and its close to your budget, good luck Edit: another GTS250 for 105 after MIRB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814134078 Never used them before though, so hard to say if they are any good or not. Edit2: GTS250 Zotac(I have a 7200gs from them, works like a charm) $105 after MIRB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814500099

The only reason I didn't discuss the GTS 250 is because TBH I didn't read that part of the original post. Mea culpa.
![]() @Darkshadow: Yes, the GTS 250 would be a nice upgrade for your wife's computer. You may not need to get a newer ATI card yet. Also, may I suggest you think about upgrading your wife's CPU? CPU bottlenecking of graphics performance may be a potential issue, though you can always pull out the old stopgap measure of overclocking the CPU.

I think that i could squeeze out enought to get either the 250 or the 4890, would it be better to get the 4890 and give her the 260? or would it be about the same either way? also looking at CPU on newegg and seen q8200. q8400 and the q9400 which of those would be better for her, and also would it be also an increase for me to get the same one and replace my old q6600? its not OC any more had some problems awhile back and its at standard speed now, and need to replace my Air cooling on it too.
