Default Accelero XTREME GTX 280 on a BFG GTX 260?

I was reading a lot of reviews about the Accelero XTREME GTX 280 and I read a few that mentioned having problems mounting the cooler on GTX 260 core 216.

For anyone who has bought this cooler and mounted it on a 260 core 216, could you explain any problems you had please? I'd really like to know if there's any major flaws with the cooler before I buy it.

Check that against your board. I'm not sure if the new layout covers the 216 or not though. You might want to check with BFG. Or maybe someone here is running that setup. I think it fits on an evga 260 216 I remember when I was looking for one for my card and found people that said it fit. I think there is a list somewhere....but not sure.

If the bfg board is like the xfx board, totally doable.

Repoman actually has one for sale here http://www.overclock.net/full-system...ml#post7564590 , and I think he'd probably tell you about his experience mounting it and everything

I'd actually recommend going against adding this to the GTX260. Because there are some known issues with doing this, and it voids your warranty, I think the best bet is to find another way for added cooling.

Aftermarket coolers made for GTX 280 will generally fit on GTX 260 192 core cards okay. Your Maxcore 55 has a much different PCB so fit will totally depend on the design of the cooler. If it only contacts the GPU itself and relies on stick-on heatsinks for the rest of the card, then it might fit. If it has to contact all the RAM, VRMs and other chips that need cooling, then it probably won't fit.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I'm probably gonna have this card/system for another 2 years and everything else runs cool and quiet except my 260.

I'd really like to get an aftermarket cooler because of the current situation I'm having with the card. The idle temps are fine, but when I'm gaming I have to turn the fan speed to 100% to keep it from hitting 100c (yes, EVGA Precision reported it hitting 100c on quite a few occasions.)

I talked to BFG about a month ago and they had me RMA it. Even after I got a new card it heats up to ~85c on 100% fan speed during "load" (playing Battlefield 2 for a couple of hours).

Are there any other aftermarket coolers for the 260 which will cut down on the heat and sound this thing creates?
